What Are the Best Ford Cars, Trucks, & SUVs for a Family in 2023?

Published on Aug 2, 2023 by Levi McDanel

The Ford family of vehicles, more commonly referred to as the Ford model lineup, includes a choice for every driver. While Ford no longer manufactures sedans as of 2020, it does make plenty of impressive family SUVs and pickup trucks.

If you are looking for a truck or SUV that will get you everywhere you need to go around Paul’s Valley while taking your whole family with you, then you likely need a vehicle with plenty of space, seats, and cargo room.

Other features you may be looking for are fuel economy that’s competitive with other vehicles in the same vehicle class, luxury amenities and technological features, and safety features to keep you getting from Point A to Point B in one piece.

Thankfully, there are plenty of Ford family-friendly vehicles from the new 2023 Ford model lineup that offer all of the above and more. Here are four great options to choose from.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 is “Built Ford Tough®” and can also tow circles around the competition. Maybe that’s why it’s so popular here at Seth Wadley Ford. Then again, this light-duty full-size pickup also offers a wide range of engine choices, so whether you’re looking for increased efficiency or added power and torque, the F-150 delivers.

This truck’s generous dimensions across multiple cab and bed styles also mean that there’s plenty of space to take the whole family with you wherever you go, while towing your boat or trailer behind you!

Notable Specs for Model Year 2023:

  • Seats 3-6 depending on body style
  • Tows up to 14,000 lbs
  • Offered in RWD and 4WD
  • Provides between 290-700 horsepower

Best For: Families that need 4x4 capability, ample cabin space, and towing power.

Ford Expedition

When we think of one Ford car for families, the Ford Expedition almost immediately comes to mind. Why? Because it’s huge, powerful, and safe. It can also tow plenty, though not quite as much as it’s pickup-truck next-of-kin, the F-150.

Notable Specs for Model Year 2023:

  • Seats 5-8
  • Tows up to 9,300 lbs
  • Offered in RWD and 4WD
  • Provides between 380-440 horsepower

Best For: Families that need the most seating capacity and cargo space available along with ample towing capacity.

Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer has been an exceedingly popular midsize SUV choice ever since it was initially released back in March of 1990 for model year 1991. This SUV has always maintained a balance between rugged good looks, creature comforts, and performance. The 2023 model year is no different. If you’re looking for a midsize crossover SUV with three standard rows of seating that’s more efficient than the Explorer, then the Explorer is a great pick.

Notable Specs for Model Year 2023:

  • Seats 6-7
  • Tows up to 5,600 lbs
  • Offered in RWD and 4WD
  • Provides between 285-400 horsepower

Best For: Families that need the ability to carry a lot of passengers or a lot of cargo, but not necessarily both at the same time. Families who prioritize efficiency over towing capacity.

Ford Edge

The Ford Edge is a two-row midsize SUV that packs a punch. With a refined demeanor and suave good looks, this SUV is ideal for smaller families who still want more passenger and cargo space than a compact crossover like the Ford Escape can comfortably deliver.

Notable Specs for Model Year 2023:

  • Seats 5
  • Tows up to 3,500 lbs
  • Offered in AWD only
  • Provides between 250-335 horsepower

Best For: Smaller families that want a roomy, refined, and rugged midsize SUV that can accommodate four people on the regular and squeeze up to five people in on occasion. People who don’t quite need as much space as the Explorer, but who may find the Escape too small or not powerful enough for their liking.
